This week I had a chance to listen to and read about a very amazing individual – Sean Stephenson. He is amazing individual not because he can jump over a tall building or melt your heart away with his voice. He is amazing because he does not give up when most of us would have thrown in the towel. Instead he raises to the occasion and goes beyond his limiting belief and step out of his comfort zone to lift others up.

“Being 3 feet tall and in a wheelchair is about 2 percent of who I am. I’m more than able. I’m playing large.”

Mr. Stephenson was born with an Osteogenesis imperfecta also known as “Brittle Bone Disease”, or “Lobstein syndrome”

Now there are many people in the world who are saintly and very charitable. But what make Mr. Stephenson so amazing is his clarity and Zen like approach toward life. After listening to his interview

by Michael Geary (Read the Transcript Here) I just experience a moment of clarity in my life.

As a martial arts instructor responsible for helping people betters themselves through physical and mental training – I now require/recommend my student to read this book. Especially if my student would like to get a Black Belt ranking from me.

In Stephenson’s powerful and practical debut, the psychotherapist and professional speaker reveals how to banish self-doubt and insecurity in a world where they may seem omnipresent. Beginning with the source of his own struggle, a rare and painful disease that causes his bones to weaken and break under minimal pressure, Stephenson offers a structured approach to a wide array of topics, including dating, weight loss, lack of motivation, friendship, finances, and goals. While his advice is encouraging and insightful, Stephenson’s text is also notable for examples, mottos and resonant personal stories of enormous obstacles and accomplishments (his work with the Clinton administration, attaining his Ph.D., opening his own private practice). Though his unwavering optimism can be daunting (bringing one’s day-to-day gripes into sharp relief), Stephenson is empowering and uplifting throughout, and should prove helpful whether facing a lifelong challenge or a more immediate battle.
