The seminar on the whole was modeled on the promotion exams. In other words, it was conducted in the order of kihon (basics)→idō (combinations/transitions)→tachi kumi (clinch)→newaza (ground work)→yakusoku kumite (prearranged sparring), and we gave guidance as we saw fit. The level and motivation of the participants were extremely high, and because they all possessed knowledge of each of the basic techniques of striking, throwing, and ground work, I felt confident that the seminar’s progression went relatively smoothly and was complete. My feeling is that as long as each individual will continue repetitive training from hereafter to transform the various techniques he happens to possess to use them smoothly within the flow of Kūdō, it will not be so distant in the future when the Americans who had joined [the world Kūdō community] late will catch up with the level of the rest of the world.
