To find a way of life
one must be guided.
—-Warner and Sasamor, This is Kendo
At Fusion Mixed Martial Arts, our base arts are Thai Boxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and recently we started adding wrestling into curriculum.
Our base arts are combat sports nature in which full resistant is applied every time we trained. To grasp the ability to perform these combat sports, the facilitation of resistant needs to be applied by someone with much more experiences than the students.
To facilities the learning process, there is a transfer of being or essence.
For example, in Thai Boxing most of your learning is done when the students are striking the focus mitt and Thai Pad. Someone who does not know how to hold the Thai Pads and does not have a good grasp on the fight game will not be able to mold and guide the students personal growth in that arts.
In a way, he is passing on his vision, his philosophy and his passion on to you.
Then said a teacher, speak to us of teaching.
And he said:
No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.
The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple
among his followers , gives not of his wisdom, but rather of his faith and his lovingness.
If he is indeed wise, he doesn’t bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.
–Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
Most martial arts teachers/sensei teaches not for money or frame, but for a legacy. They believe that their martial arts teaching they are able to leave a foot print of their soul.
Martial arts are one of the greatest expression of performing arts. Fear, anger, frustration, timing, movement, tempo, speed, agility, physical prowess, the list go on and on.
When I give a student a belt. I am giving a nod, a personal acknowledgement of all the effort, time and finance committed in acquiring my knowledge and my skills.
In the spirit of humility, an intrinsic element of Bushido, is removed from the teaching of classical martial studies, the lack of this important virtue makes such studies mere systems of violence.
–Nitobe, The Sword and the Deity
For me, martial arts are more than learning how to punch, kick, choke, break, fracture, someone’s body but learning to become gentle warrior, a vehicle for self actualization- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow’s_hierarchy_of_needs
