It was/is Rickson’s shrimp.

Marcelo’s xguard

Aww, Rickson shrimp. I’ve never heard that term before. Quick search turned up the “Side shrimp”

As per http://bridgeshrimpspinturtle.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/side-shrimps/

1. Start from the Corpse Position (both shoulders and both hips on the ground = you’re dead).
2. One, post a leg (heel off the ground!), push off of it and move your hips sideways, trying to get on one cheek; two, pull your near shoulder back, trying to get on one shoulder.
3. Again, one, move your hips a bit more, two, pull your near shoulder back more.
4. Repeat until you are in the Fetus Position (on one hip, on one shoulder = you’re about to be born).

Not sure how many times i have to post this.

I was at the same seminar Ryan was in Nashville when Rickson taught this.

the point of the seminar was CONNECTION.

Basically your outside foot needs to stay connected to the ground at all times. You frame your body against the opponent but all the power of the frame comes from the foot on the ground.

Case in point. In the above embedded video, the guy is shrimping out but both his feet leave the ground. Whats to stop the top guy from flattening you back out ?

So basically when you shrimp out you SLIDE your outside foot along the mat away from the opponent creating a solid frame the entire time, until you’re in a position to roll your hips over and go belly down and go to your single leg or whatever. You DON”T LIFT YOUR FOOT FROM THE MAT

try this at home: stay on your side on the mat, and with your outside foot posted , have another person stand and drive all their weight into your shoulder to try to flatten you. Its impossible because of your foots connection to the mat.

Its a very simple concept there is NO MAGIC to it. just a minor detail that most people leave out.
