Mediocrity is the default position that many operate from. Because we are highly opposed to any type of discomfort, we generally avoid going beyond our comfort zone whenever possible. In doing so, we stunt our growth and limit our potential. Fear becomes the conductor of our lives and we become hostage to self-limiting thoughts and self- defeating behaviors. Rather than expand, we retract. Are you living up to your potential?

Everyone has unhealthy addictions or poor habits they wish they could overcome such as smoking, overeating, laziness, procrastination or lack of assertiveness. To overcome these addictions or habits, we need to have both will power and self- discipline. Rather than exercise self-discipline, we create dis-ease. Are you living up to your potential?

Will power is the ability to control impulses. It is the inner power that overcomes emotional and mental resistance to taking action. Self-discipline is the companion to will power. It provides the stamina to persevere through difficulties and reject immediate satisfaction for something better. Rather than honor our word, we make ourselves liars. Are you living up to your potential?

Combined, will power and self-discipline help us to direct our impulses rather than controlled by them. Their power is strengthened in us every time we resist unhealthy thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions. When we resist, the stored energy inside us functions like a battery, and it becomes available at the time of need. Rather than be a slave to every fleeting emotion, we exercise control over our thoughts. Are you living up to your potential?

An effective method for developing and improving will power and self-discipline is to perform activities that move you outside your comfort zone. By doing so, you overcome your subconscious resistance and more importantly train your mind obey you. When we press through what is otherwise thought to be too difficult or impossible, we employ self-mastery. Rather than settle for mediocrity, we strive for excellence – over and over again. Boxing, like any sport, actualizes the concept of mind over matter and helps to make tangible the experience of going further than we believed possible. By engaging in physical training or learning to excel in a given sport, we embark upon a journey of self-discovery and self-mastery. We dig deeper, go further and become even better.
