One of the most common questions we receive from aspiring fighters that want to get into mixed martial arts is, “I live in a small rural town with no gyms around, how do I start training?”. Although MMA is exploding on a global scale, there are still many parts of the US that just do not have MMA gyms. Many of these aspiring fighters want to get their career’s started, but do not have the proper training facilities at their disposal.
Our question to you is, “What advice would you give an aspiring fighter that lives in a rural area with no gyms?”. We will be asking this question to different industry professionals, so we can create a resource article for fighters to reference. There are many different ways this question can be answered such as travel to the closest gym, relocate to a different city, start training at home, workout with the high school wrestling team, create your own gym, study tape online, etc.. Do you feel any of these answers are correct or do you have a better suggestion that you would recommend to an aspiring fighter?
Anyone willing to answer this question will be quoted in our article. Selected answers will be included in March’s issue of the MMAR Reader (our free online magazine). To take part, please simply just reply directly to this email with your response.
